IDP Camp Outreach Photo Report
19 November, 2009
Last weekend, (Nov. 14 & 15) a team of clinicians and evangelists from Kijabe visited an IDP camp ("Internally Displaced Persons") outside of Nakuru to provide free medical services and to bring the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Bob was privileged to participate on that team. A photo report has now been posted to our "Pictures" page. If you would like to see this report, click on the "Pictures" tab above. Then select "By Category" and click on "Nakuru IDP Camp Outreach." Then just open each picture in turn.
Blessings!

November Ministry Update
07 November, 2009
It’s hard to believe that we are already well into November. The leaves here are just greening up and farmers have been busy planting, with the early crops poking their heads up through the freshly watered ground. At long last the 3-year drought appears to be ending. For over two weeks now we have been receiving almost daily gentle soaking rains interspersed with sunshine, transforming the landscape. God has been answering your prayers and ours. Please keep praying that the rains will continue long enough for the crops to mature and the water tables to be replenished. Meanwhile we still h...

19 October, 2009

On Monday October 12, one week ago this evening, a sudden inferno reduced nine Kijabe homes to ashes in a matter of just ten minutes. The homes were all simple wood-board structures built very close together. The blaze was reportedly started by an electrical fault in one of the homes. Miraculously, there were no serious injuries. But the fire left nine families, all of them Kijabe Hospital employees, destitute. They were left with nothing but the clothes they were wearing at the time.
The suddenly homeless families are currently being hosted by other hospital staff until suitable a...
Swine Flu finds Kijabe
11 October, 2009
Seems like we had quite a few "bad colds" circulating around Kijabe in September. That's not surprising of itself, as this happens a lot about this time of year, especially at boarding schools when students return after long breaks. They all bring their new found viruses from home and share them around the dorms. Sort of a community fellowship experience. And at Kijabe we have several boarding schools including Rift Valley Academy (the largest), Kijabe Girls' Boarding High School and Kijabe Boys' Boarding H.S. In mid-September Josiah brought home the RVA version, and a week later I (Bob) ...

03 October, 2009
From time to time you hear me mention the increasing number of Somali patients being treated at Kijabe Hospital. The numbers continue to increase, putting tremendous pressure on both inpatient and outpatient services. We have a few fluent Somali-speakers on staff, and we do try to treat our Somali patients with the same kindness, courtesy and sincerity of care as with all our other patients - perhaps something that they don't often experience in Somalia.
We have become quite well-known among the large Somali enclave in Nairobi, and routinely receive referrals from the UNHCR-administer...
