Prayer Report

Fire!

Pray for the nine hospital families left homeless and destitute from last week's fire. Also pray that the hospital community's compassionate response will be sustained over the long haul as these families struggle to rebuild their lives.

The response from the community has been wonderful so far, and others have also given generously to help meet the most urgent needs. Please continue praying for them.

Road Carnage

Road travel in Kenya is becoming increasingly hazardous. (See "Sudden Death.") Horrific road accidents involving both public and private vehicles, and armed robberies and carjackings are all steadily increasing. Please pray about this.

Several traffic accident victims seen at the hospital just today. The road carnage continues. Prayer is still needed.

Water Rationing

Due to the extended drought, the water table has dropped dangerously low and water is being rationed. Today (again) we are without water. The lack of water can contribute to the spread of communicable diseases. Please pray for abundant rain.

(See "Drought in Kenya".) The short rains (October/November) are beginning. We need heavy rains this season to build up the water table. Please keep on praying!

Sudden Death

Please pray for the family of Ronald, a long-serving X-ray technician at Kijabe Hospital, who was killed last weekend when his car was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The burial was on Friday. The whole hospital is in mourning.

Drought in Kenya

The "short rains" have finally come, bringing some relief from the 3-year drought. Pray that the rains will be sufficient for not only the newly-planted crops but also to replenish the depleted water table.

Two weeks of cold wind and rainy days - Yes! Crops are being planted in the fields even as seeds of hope are being planted in peoples' hearts. Pray for the rains to continue for the full duration of the season, and not to quit early.

Medical Staff

Praise God for His supply of consultant-level staff able to replace those who are scheduled to leave soon. Seemingly at the "last minute" He has provided a Family Practitioner (1 year), Pediatrician (2 years) and OB-Gynecologist (1 year.)

Work Permit

Bob's work permit under SIM will expire next month. The Africa Inland Church (AIC), which owns and runs Kijabe Hospital, applied in April for a new work permit for Bob but so far we have heard nothing. Pray for it to be issued very soon.

We have just been informed that (after 6 months!) Bob's class 'E' work permit has been approved, paid for, and granted. Praise God! And thanks for your prayers.

Health

Please pray for Hope. She has a bad cold for more than a week, with a cough that won't go away and a voice that won't come back! Pray, too, for Bob and Josiah, that they won't get it too. Thanks.

We are all of us over our colds now, and back to breathing & speaking normally again!

Broken Collar Bone

Some of you may know that Josiah broke his left collar bone in his first rugby game after making the team. This week will be the sixth after breaking it, and he is hoping to be allowed to resume full practice with the team this week if all goes well.

Thanks for praying. His collar bone has healed well and he was able to play the last two games of the season, plus a "friendly" this week.

Theft halts JESUS Film project in Zambia

When we left Zambia we handed over the JESUS Film project and equipment to the Evangelical Bible College. But the portable generator used to show the film in rural areas was recently stolen. Please pray that it will be recovered.

Praise God that the generator was recovered! After keeping it hidden for a couple months, the thief tried to sell it in Solwezi, but someone recognized it and reported it to the police! It is now in use once more for powering the JESUS film.

Chicken Pox Outbreak

There has been an outbreak of chicken pox at Rift Valley Academy. The student body is truly international, so many in the student body have not been immunized against the chicken pox. Please pray that the outbreak will be quickly contained.

School is out. "Leaving Day" was yesterday and graduation for the seniors is tomorrow. No new cases in the past week that we know of. We are thankful.

Friends with cancer

Please continue praying for Mary Ellen, who is on chemotherapy. Other friends needing prayer for cancer: Paul (a dear brother with no insurance) and Kim (a missionary colleague whose son is in Josiah's class.)

Please continue praying for Mary Ellen, Paul, and Kim. Also pray for Larry Neese, who is now facing life without his beloved Bev, whose cancer called her home to the Lord last month. He still has a vital ministry ongoing in Kitale, Kenya.

CAN-K Registration

Registration of the Churches AIDS Network of Kenya continues to be obstructed. It is now more than a year since the application was accepted, and the steering committee is getting discouraged and ready to give up. Please pray urgently!

We are now told that the word "Churches" must be removed from the name in order to register the organization. Every time it's something different. We are still unwilling to pass money under the table. Please keep praying.

Monthly AIDS Prayer Guide

Give thanks that the monthly AIDS prayer guide which Hope produces is receiving ever-widening circulation. It has now been picked up by the Micah Network (www.micahnetwork.org) and is being translated into Swahili by Trans World Radio (Kenya.)

The monthly AIDS prayer guide is now also being posted by CANA in India and in South African by the 14,000-member CABSA network.

Church to Community Mobilization

The Church to Community Mobilization project (#KE 92161) remains greatly underfunded. Please pray for success as we continue to look for sources of project funding.

The project was included in SIM's Christmas Catalog. This generated a number of very helpful contributions. The project budget, however, is still greatly underfunded. Please keep praying!
